Britney Spears is giving her support to the St. Bernard Project as a charity ambassador.
“It’s time to bring families back home to New Orleans,” she tweeted today. “Join the @Stbernardproj with me & help rebuild lives.”
The star is asking her fans to support the work of the organization – along with United Way for the Greater New Orleans – to help raise funds to get families home.
“The St. Bernard Project is an incredible organization whose main focus is rebuilding Louisiana,” she says. “I am so honored to be part of this cause. Louisiana will always be a part of my soul.”
According to her FirstGiving.com page, "Your donation today will help St. Bernard Project (SBP) get families home and help rebuild the New Orleans area. You can be a part of the rebirth of New Orleans and have a signifcant impact on helping families finally return home almost 6 years after Hurricane Katrina.
“Text BRITNEY to UNITED (864833) to give $10 to St. Bernard Project. By donating right now, United Way for the Greater New Orleans Area will match dollar for dollar your donation up to $100,000.”
Spears will also be attending the St. Bernard Project’s Southern Style event next week, which will feature a gourmet dinner created by her father, Jamie. “Southern Style” will be an elegant sit down dinner of fine Southern cuisine. The event takes place at a private residence in Beverly Hills on May 11.

According to the charity: "The St. Bernard Project was founded by Liz McCartney and Zack Rosenburg in March 2006. Since that time they have evolved into a thriving rebuilding organization that has helped over 350 families who were affected by Hurricane Katrina and Rita move back into their homes. Yet, nearly 200 families still reside in FEMA trailers and thousands of others live in temporary housing.
“To carry out this mission, the St. Bernard Project has established a Volunteer Driven Rebuilding Program, which rebuilds homes in 12 weeks of volunteer labor with approximately $15,000 in building supplies, an Opportunity Housing Program, a Good Work Good Pay (GWGP) Program and a Center for Wellness and Mental Health.”
