NFL Stars Help Son Of Suicide Mother

NFL stars Ray Lewis and Reggie Howard are helping a young boy whose mother drowned herself and three of her children.

La’Shaun Armstrong – who almost died in the incident, but escaped from the van his mother drove into the Hudson River on April 12 – was part of the United Athletes Foundation Charity Weekend. The weekend’s three days of events – which were also attended by Vivica Fox – included a Father and Son Bowling Tournament, where Ray Lewis taught La’Shaun how to bowl, and culminated in a Black Tie Gala, where Lewis and Howard helped raise $20,000 for his continued counseling and education.

“This is a hard situation and he is forever changed,” Lewis told The Post. "We are not going to let him do it alone, we are going to be here for him for ever.

“We are human and to hear that story… as soon as I heard it, I was like, ‘I need to find him.’ Nobody is supposed to walk through life alone with that, especially being 10 years old.”

“We actually want to bring him in and make him an honorary member,” added Howard, who took La’Shaun shopping prior to the event.“We want to provide him with mentors, tutoring, establish a scholarship. It’s all about being there for him, so he has someone he can reach out to.”

According to the charity, “the United Athletes Foundation is a charity created in 2008 by a group of professional athletes who understood their unique role in improving the lives of both the athlete fraternity and society in it’s entirety.” Find out more here.
